Stay hydrated.

Drink lots of fluids especially water and natural fruit juices to thin your mucus, loosen congestion and prevent dehydration.

This will also help to prevent headaches and tiredness caused by dehydration, as well as get rid of the cold fast.

Don’t take alcohol, coffee and caffeinated drinks as they will leave you dehydrated and interfere with your recovery process.

Have a water bottle handy or a glass if you prefer, and refill as often as you drink.

Drink warm liquids.

As much as you drink up lots of water, there is also a need to take in warm liquids to soothe your sore throat, calm inflammation and ease fatigue.

Stay off stressful work and rest instead. Take power naps during the day and sleep early at night.

You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and better than the previous day.

If you cannot sleep well due to the symptoms you’re experiencing, have a warm bath then sleep afterwards with an extra pillow beneath your head so you can breathe easier.

Use over-the-counter cold medications.

Over the counter (OTC) medications such as antihistamines, decongestants and pain relievers can make you feel better.

OTC medications should not be given to babies and children younger than 6 years except it is specifically recommended by a pediatrician.
